This is the anniversary of the occupation of the Azerbaijani city of Khojaly and the Khojaly genocide by Armenian armed forces with the participation of the 366th Motorized Rifle Regiment of Russia.
According to the report, 28 years have passed since the Khojaly genocide.
On the night of February 25-26, 1992, the Armenian military units with the help of the 366th motorized infantry regiment of Russia attacked the city of Khojaly. 2,500 residents of the city moved to Agdam to escape. The Armenians opened fire on the peaceful inhabitants.
As a result, another battle, perfected by Armenian aggressors against the Azerbaijani people, killed 613 people, including 106 women, 63 children and 70 elderly people. 1275 civilians were taken prisoner, and the fate of 150 of them is still unknown. 475 people received injuries. 8 families were completely destroyed. 25 children lost both parents, and 130 children lost one parent.
In 1994, at the initiative of Heydar Aliyev, the Milli Mejlis adopted a special resolution “February 26 – the day of the Khojaly genocide.” The document details the causes of the incident and the culprits.
A monument to the victims of the Khojaly genocide has been erected in the Khatai district of Baku.
The Heydar Aliyev Foundation also works systematically and sequentially to bring to the world the facts of the Khojaly genocide. It is no coincidence that in January 2012, at the VII session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Palembang, Indonesia, parliamentarians from 51 countries adopted a resolution recognizing the Khojaly tragedy as genocide committed internationally.
“Justice of Khojaly!” The international information campaign is currently successfully conducted in dozens of countries around the world and is aimed at recognizing the tragedy at the moral, political and legal levels. Currently, Pakistan, Mexico, the Czech Republic, Colombia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and others. The parliaments of the country recognized the Khojaly tragedy as genocide and a criminal act against Azerbaijan. Besides, the Khojaly genocide was recognized by the legislature in more than 20 states of the United States.
It should be noted that President Ilham Aliyev held an international conference “Justice for Khojaly!” Taking into account the importance of the campaign, he signed an order dated February 13, 2014 “On the conduct of the campaign” Justice for Khojaly. “
